The film knows the creepiness of hearing a voice that is meant for nobody and everybody. Its best scares are not loud; they are punctual.

Once the plot begins explaining the transmission, some mystery drains away. Even so, the emotional idea underneath remains compelling.

Signals After Midnight is most persuasive as a story about responsibility: what do you owe strangers when you might be the only person who heard the warning?
